A New Year and Some Good News

There is a Nunavut tradition of wishing friends a Happy New Year the first time you see them after January 1st (even if it is February). So, since this is the first time I am updating my President’s Message this year, I will wish you all a Happy New Year and take this opportunity to say that I am looking forward to the rest of 2017 and to continuing to work for those that make Nunavut work.

As we enter February, I am pleased to announce that we have reached an air travel agreement with Canadian North to provide NEU Members who hold a signed NEU Membership Card and their immediate families the chance to fly at a special, negotiated NEU discount.

(Click here to find out more and how to get the new NEU/Canadian Northern booking code)

Canadian North joins Calm Air (for those Members in the Kivalliq Region) in providing great service and savings to NEU Members when they need to fly.

I would like to take this chance to thank First Air who were one of our air travel partners until recently. As I said in the press release associated with Canadian North agreement, the NEU chooses its partners carefully because we want to provide the best possible benefits to our Members. It was not an easy decision to not renew the relationship with First Air. However, in the end, our Executive, as they always do, did what is best for our Members.

First Air did a great job, but, entering 2017, Canadian North were able to make flying even easier and more affordable for NEU Members.

That is the only reason we did not renew our air travel agreement with First Air.

I am also pleased to announce that the NEU has brought aboard a Communications Officer (James Kaylor) to help us continue to provide you with the information you need and want – shared with you in the way you want to receive it (more to come on this soon in my next President’s Message).

In closing, I would urge those Members who do not have a signed NEU Membership Card to contact reception@neu.ca (or call 867.979.4209/toll free 1.877.243.4424) to find out how to get one. Having a signed card will allow you to contact our Membership Clerk to get the Canadian North booking code. It will also allow us to have up-to-date contact information so that we can stay in touch with you and, at the least, let you know when my next President’s Message has been posted.

In solidarity,

Bill Fennell

President
