Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. the NEU will be closed Monday October 2 to mark this day that honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. The Nunavut Employees Union urges all Members – and all Canadians to educate themselves on the disturbing truths behind the horrors and atrocities committed under the guise of despicable programs like Residential Schools, Tuberculosis Epidemic Management and High Arctic Relocation.
