The Public Service Alliance of Canada-North (PSAC-North)/Nunavut Employees Union (NEU) Bargaining Team held its second Bargaining Session with the Government of Nunavut (GN) Team in Rankin Inlet the week of February 18, 2019. The PSAC-North/NEU Team is pleased to report that the positive tone and spirit characterizing the first session of bargaining (held this past January) continued into the second session.

Bargaining took place February 18-20, 2019 during which the PSAC-North/NEU Team continued to advance the non-monetary proposals established through Member input. Both sides picked up where they left off in January and made quick progress.

While both Teams had set aside four-and-a-half days for bargaining, bargaining concluded after only three days.

The Union has made significant progress on several non-financial proposals, while the discussion of proposals deemed to have financial implications has been reserved for the next Bargaining Session, when the parties will exchange their financial packages.

The PSAC-North/NEU Team held a full-day caucus on February 21, 2019 to prepare and review the Union’s comprehensive financial package in anticipation of the next session. The Union is now in receipt of most of the information needed to cost its financial proposals and plans to review a fully-costed package during another full-day caucus before the next exchange.

The next Bargaining Session is scheduled for the week of May 6, 2019 in Iqaluit.

The Union will issue another bargaining update following that Bargaining Session.

In solidarity,

Your PSAC-North/NEU Bargaining Team

Noel Collins; Simon Doiron; Linda Hunter; Ruth Kaluraq; Abraham Qammaniq; Rick Roberts;
Bill Fennell (NEU President); Darren Pacione (PSAC Researcher) and John Eustace (PSAC Negotiator).
