About the GN's new Staff Housing Policy
Please read the following section carefully before completing the survey.
The new GN Staff Housing Policy will see most employees paying more rent as of January 1st, 2006. Employees who live in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay will see their rent increase 15% per year for each of the next three years, followed by increases of 20% per year for the two following years. Employees living in all other communities will see a 10% rent increase each year for the next ten years.
Supplementary to this new policy there will be a Rental Assistance Program, for which employees must apply. The Rental Assistance Program consists of ceilings to rent paid by employees:
Employees with an annual household income of less than $90,000: rent will not exceed 20% of the household's income.
Employees with an annual household income between $90,000 and $110,000: rent will not exceed 25% of the household's income.
Employees with an annual household income of more than $110,000: rent will not exceed 30% of the household's income.
('Household income' is defined as "all forms of income before taxes for the combined income of all persons in the household." This includes Nunavut Northern Allowance.)
10. Which of the following statements best describes whether these rent increases will impact on YOUR staying in Nunavut?
These rent increases will result in my leaving Nunavut within a year.
These rent increases will result in my leaving Nunavut sooner than I likely would if rents for GN staff housing were cheaper -- but not within a year.
These rent increases will not have any impact on whether or not I stay in Nunavut, or if and when I decide to leave Nunavut.

Not applicable to me - I either already own a dwelling in Nunavut or I have already decided to leave Nunavut in the near future.
